Teachers in Greece

One more successful meeting of the partners took place at 1o Gymnasio Acharnon from 18th to 24th September 2019. Teachers from Basque Country, Portugal and Poland traveled to our country to get acquainted with ancient as well as modern Greek culture.

After arriving and settling in the hotel, we began touring the islands but also in mainland Greece in order to get in touch with the Greek culture.

September 19th

On the first day, Thursday, September 19, 2019 we visited our nearby islands of Hydra, Poros and Aegina. In Hydra, the partners learned about the Greek Revolution of 1821 and how the Hydra contributed to it. They heard about the Admirals Miaouli, Ikonomou, Tobazides, Tsamados, Shaktouris and the firebrands Matrizos, Pipinos and Vaticanotis. They visited the historical museum, learned about the ancient history of the island from the late Neolithic period to the present day and tasted traditional products of the island.

The next stop was Poros, which is actually two islands, Spheria and Kalavria, separated by a narrow strip of sea. We saw the historic clock on the hill, a gift from Ioannis Papadopoulos and the navy's recruitment center. We toured the streets of the island, bought local products and continued our trip to Aegina.

In Aegina we visited the temple of Aphea Athena, who was the model for the Parthenon and the monastery of Saint Nektarios in order to get acquainted with the ancient and new Greek religion, Christianity.

September 20th

The next day, September 20th, was dedicated to training all partners in web tools at the IT Lab of 1o Gymnasio Acharnon and meeting to review our action so far.

September 20th & 21st

The next two days Saturday and Sunday included a visit to Delphi and Meteora. In Delphi we toured the Museum and the archaeological site. We visited Arachova, where we parked for a while to admire the scenery and taste local produce.

In Meteora we visited the Great Meteora and the Monastery of St. Stephen, where our guests came into contact with the Orthodox Christian religion. They got to know the architecture of the monasteries, their history and learned about Orthodox monasticism.
