On January 30, the Eastern Orthodox Church honors Vasilios, Ioannis and Griogorios, the three standouts patron saints of literacy and education. They lived during the 4th century AD, in the early Christian years, and devoted their lives and possessions to the offering of man. They were very well educated and mastered the classical Greek education. They left a great deal of writing work. Our school, like all schools in our country, honored the three hierarchs on the 30th of January. All students and teachers attended the mass at the adjacent church and students presented the saints' biographies. At the end of the mass it is customary to distribute bread to the attendants. The bread is sweet and made for this special feast. It is sanctified during the mass and symbolizes that those who share it join the large Christian family.
